Rural housing, undoubtly being one of the most essential yet not discussed or practiced area of the architecture discipline. In Bangladesh, rural areas are demanding further looking design implications as they are being the complimentary part of urban areas more than ever before.Type designing of rural housing has eased the challenge of categorizing the living condition of the rural people having a vast variety of customs,       cultures, economy and environmental conditions. Anwarpur, a small village of Sunamganj resides right between the river, Rakhti and its backswamp called Shonir haor.As a result the people of     Anwarpur have to face flash flood and heavy rainfall during monsoon which weakens their economic foundation as well as their resistance to disasters.
In a homestead scale, the flood occupies the total ground area including the ground floor of built area leaving the residents disconnected to ground activities and creating shortage of living space as well as adding burden to their livelihood and changing their lifestyle to a greater extent. That’s where we point our questions. Why can’t the built structure be enough responsive to provide the lost living spaces submerged in flood? Why can’t it be enough adaptive to substitute the ground connection between neighbors? Why can’t it be enough flexible to occupy ground related function during flood?
